Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to Curry in a non-conference contest played at Alumni Field on Monday afternoon.

Rhode Island College (4-8-2) got on the board first when sophomore forward Eleni Grammas (Cranston, RI) played a pass down the left sideline to senior midfielder Jaclyn Greenman (Waterford, CT). Greenman then lofted a shot into the upper right corner of the net to give the Anchorwomen the 1-0 lead at the 15:36 mark.

Curry (7-7-2) responded in the 19th minute when senior Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, MA) chipped in a ball to the top of the box to junior forward Samantha McGrath (Carver, MA). McGrath then split a pair of RIC defenders and put in a shot from the left side of the six-yard box to knot the score at 1-1. Rhode Island College held the 9-6 advantage in shots for the stanza.

The visiting Colonels took the lead at the 50:38 mark when freshman Megan Ladner (Bourne, MA) controlled a loose ball at midfield and fed a breaking Lima. Lima then notched her eighth goal of the season, blasting in a shot from 10 yards out for the 2-1 lead.  Rhode Island College had an opportunity to tie the game in the 54th minute when Curry was called for a foul inside the 18-yard box. Greenman had the ensuing penalty kick that was stopped by Curry senior goalkeeper Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, MA) and then hit off the crossbar to preserve the one goal advantage for Curry. 

The Anchorwomen tied the game at the 64:55 mark when junior midfielder Stephanie Ricci (Smithfield, RI) sent a perfect crossing pass to the far side of the field. Freshman forward Madyson Christian (Douglas, MA) collected the pass and slipped a shot just inside the post to even the score at 2-2. Curry once again regained the advantage in the 66th minute as junior Amanda Crisfulla (Raynham, MA) blasted a shot that was saved by RIC junior goalkeeper Brianna Sousa (Warwick, RI), but went towards the goal. Senior defender Briana Fitzsimmons (East Haven, CT) then put in the rebound to give the Colonels the 3-2 advantage. RIC had several chances down the stretch, but failed to convert as Curry held on the for the 3-2 victory. Curry held an 18-15 advantage in shots for the contest.

Sousa tallied seven saves in the loss for the Anchorwomen, while Stott notched five stops in the victory for the Colonels.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at home against UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, Oct. 19 (4 p.m.).
