Curry Edged 1-0 on Late Goal By Suffolk University

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Women's Soccer Team fell 1-0 to the Rams of Suffolk University Wednesday night at Walter M. Katz Field. The loss drops the Colonels to 6-6-2 on the season while the Rams improve to 8-7 overall.

The Colonels controlled the first half, outshooting the Rams 17-1. Curry was led by senior Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) and junior Julianna Petrucelli (Milford, Conn.) who each had five shots. Curry also earned the only two corner kicks of the half.

Curry didn't let off the gas in the second half, as they continued to out shoot the Rams, finishing with a 31-4 shot advantage. After 89 minutes of soccer, the Rams finally broke the 0-0 tie game when freshman Madelyn Whipple (Claremont, N.H.) collected a rebound off of a shot from sophomore Alexandra Nagri (Salem, N.H.) and fired it past the Colonels senior goalkeeper Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.). The Colonels had possession in the final minute of regulation, fighting for a chance to score and go into overtime but solid play between the pipes from the Rams freshman goalkeeper Kirsten Weiker (Durham, N.H.) held them scoreless for the victory.

Stott took the loss in net for the Colonels, stopping three of four shots she faced. Weiker collected the win for the Rams, stopping all 14 shots she faced.

The Colonels return to the pitch on Saturday, October 15 when they travel to Salve Regina for a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 PM. The Rams next contest is also Saturday, October 15 as they take on Mount Ida with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
