Women's Soccer Downs Fitchburg State, 3-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team defeated Fitchburg State, 3-0, on Tuesday night at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win, the Colonels improve to 4-4-1 while the Falcons fall to 2-5 on the season.

Despite the shots being even in the first half at 7-7 it was the Colonels who were able to capitalize and get on the scoreboard.  Curry took the lead just 12:10 into the half after an unassisted tally from junior Cassie Grasso (Wilmington, Mass.).  The Colonels kept the pressure on the Falcons defense and at the 33:07 mark they took a two-goal advantage.  Freshman Megan Ladner (Bourne, Mass.) netted her first collegiate goal after she collected a loose ball off a rebound and sent it past the glove of Fitchburg's freshman goaltender Alexandra Foster (Leominster, Mass.).  Curry's freshman goalkeeper Kristen Buzzotta (Lynnfield, Mass.) stopped all seven shots she faced holding Fitchburg scoreless.

The Colonels came out strong in the second half but couldn't find the back of the net until the 68th minute.  Junior Amanda Crisfulla (Raynham, Mass.) one-timed the ball in the upper corner of the net for her first on the night and the team's third.  The Falcons had their chances but strong play between the pipes from Buzzotta held them without a score earning the shutout.  Shots again were even at five apiece.

Crissfulla led Curry in shots with three, landing two on net with one score.  For Fitchburg sophomore Maddie Medina (Pelham, N.H.) led her team with three and landing all three on net.

Buzzotta was credited with the win and shutout, finishing with a career-high ten saves. Foster earned the loss for her making six saves.

The Colonels returns to action on Saturday, September 24 when they travel to Nichols College for a 2:30 p.m. Commonwealth Coast Conference match.  The Falcons return to action also on Saturday when they travel to MSCAC opponent Westfield State for a 12:00 p.m. game.
