Women's Soccer Battles Conference Rival Eastern Nazarene to a 2-2 Double Overtime Tie

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team tied Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Eastern Nazarene College, 2-2 in double overtime on Wednesday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field.  With the tie the Colonels move to 12-4-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the CCC. The Lions are now 5-6-3 overall and 2-3-2 in the CCC.

The first half was an evenly played match with Eastern Nazarene holding a slight edge in shots at 13-12. Both goalkeepers came up with seven saves, allowing one goal each. The Lions took the early 1-0 lead 13:26 into the half. Alexis Schmidt (North Smithfield, R.I.) sent Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) a through pass and Lawrence one-time it past the glove of the Colonel's keeper Christina Chiofalo (Smithtown, N.Y.). Curry tied the score after they were awarded a free-kick outside the 18-yard box. Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) took the kick around the 20 yard line and sent the ball low into the back of the net. Eastern Nazarene's goalkeeper Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) dove but couldn't make the stop.

It took the Lions just 34 seconds into the second frame to get the go ahead goal.  Lawrence netted her second on the night off an assist by Libby Nyquist (Barre, Vt.).  Curry quickly began to pressure the Eastern Nazarene defense reeling off 18 shots over the span of 45 minutes.  Farley was holding them scoreless until the 68:16 minute mark when the Colonels evened the score at two.  Taylor Evans (Middleton, Mass.) took a shot that Farley saved but couldn't hold onto.  She collected her own rebound and sent the ball to Korinna Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) who tallied the goal.  Chiofalo played solid in net for the remainder of regulation making five saves and holding Eastern Nazarene to that lone goal in the beginning of the half.  The teams battled for the game-winner but time expired and the squads headed into sudden death overtime.

Curry had nine shots over the 20 minutes of double overtime with Farley making six saves.  Eastern Nazarene had just three shots with one on net.

The Colonels finished with 39 shots and four corner kicks. The Lions had 25 shots and three corners.
