Grasso Nets Three Goals to Help Lead Her Team to a 7-0 Win Over Lyndon State

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - After a 1-1 tie in double overtime to Mitchell College Saturday, the Hornets were noticeably banged up and tired.  The Hornets were unable to keep up with a solid attack game from Curry College, losing for the first time this season 7-0.

The Curry Colonels would blast 42 shots on the day (22 on goal) on their way to victory.  However, it would take only three shots for the Colonels to find the back of the net as Kaitlyn Lima would loft a pass over the defense, leading Cassandra Grasso toward the goal.  Grasso would finish the play with a ground shot to the right which would find the back of the net untouched by the keeper.

Just five minutes later Kaitlyn Lima would gain possession of the ball for the Colonels in the Hornet box and, after a couple touches, placed the ball in the back of the net.

The Colonels would continue to put pressure on the Hornet defense and keeper Johanna Sargent (West Brookfield, VT), but the Hornets would escape the first half with only a two goal deficit.

The Colonels would waste little time adding to their lead when play resumed.  In the 47th minute, Korinna Tsonis would get a clean shot at Sargent who made the save but couldn't gain possession.  Cassandra Grasso was there to clean it up and stuff the ball in for a 3-0 lead over the Lyndon women.

Playing only 14 players on the day due to injuries, the Hornets were unable to keep the Curry attack at bay.

In the 54th minute, it was Grasso who would find the back of the net again after a pass from Kelly Parker.  Tsonis eventually got in the scoring column in the 66th minute as she gained possession on the left side of the field, took the ball in closer and lifted the ball over Sargent to increase the score to 5-0.  Less than two minutes later, Karley Hodge obtained the ball on the left side and placed a shot near side into the goal.

With just over a minute left to play, Hodge would make a lead pass by the defenders to Amanda Crisfulla who poked the ball to the left past Sargent making the final tally 7-0.

The Hornets hope to rest up before travelling to play St. Michael's College on Wednesday at 4:00pm.  The Colonels don't play again until Saturday when the host Salve Regina University in an 11:00 am game. (Game Recap Courtesy of Lyndon State Sports Information)
