Women's Soccer Pushes Gordon College to Overtime Before Falling 1-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team lost to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Gordon College, 1-0 in overtime, on Saturday morning at the Walter M. Katz Field. The Colonels fell to 11-5 on the season and 1-5 in the CCC. The Fighting Scots improved to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the CCC.

The first half was an evenly played matched between both teams.  Curry held a slight advantage in shots at 8-6. Gordon's junior goaltender McKenzie Dion (North Grafton, Mass.) was forced to make some tough stops as the Colonels landed seven of their strikes on net.  Curry's sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) also played solid between the pipes as she came up with four saves.  Both squads had one corner kick apiece but neither could capitalize on the opportunity.  The horn blew and after 45 minutes of play, the teams headed into intermission tied at zero.

Second frame was similar to the first with both teams fighting to get on the board for the lead.  The Fighting Scots led in shots over the 45 minutes of regulation at 9-3.  Stott made six big saves to hold Gordon scoreless while Dion had just two stops.  Neither one could finish to force overtime.

Curry finished with 11 shots, nine on goal, 10 saves, seven fouls and two corner kicks throughout 90 minutes.  Gordon finished with 15 shots, 10 on goal, nine saves, 10 fouls and one corner kick.

The Fighting Scots came out strong to start the first overtime.  Gordon outshot Curry 3-1, two landing on net and one resulting in the game-winner.  Senior Hannah Midwinter (Barkhamsted, Conn.) had a great shot forcing Stott to make a diving save.  The save went off the glove of Stott giving the Fighting Scots a corner kick opportunity.  Freshman Kaelyn Silveira (Bristol, R.I.) was awarded the corner.  She sent a perfect cross in front of the net and with just 21 seconds left showing on the board, junior Kaitlyn Hawn (Woodbury, Minn.) headed it into the back of the net to earn her team the 1-0 victory.

Curry had a game total of 12 shots, 10 fouls and two corner kicks. Gordon had a game total of 18 shots, 12 fouls and two corner kicks.

Stott made 12 saves in goal for the Colonels in the loss.  Dion made nine saves in net for the Fighting Scots in the win.
