CCC Releases Fall 2014 Pre-Season Coaches' Polls

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has released the results of its pre-season coaches' polls for the Fall 2014 season. Listed below are the rankings for each of Curry College's five spring teams, along with a preview featuring each team's key returning players.

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER: 8th of 10

Curry College (6-11-2, 1-7-1 CCC) head coach Jason Tassinari returns for his third season at the helm of the Colonels. In his first season at Curry in 2012, the team improved by three wins.  In 2013, the team qualified for the CCC tournament.  Curry will rely heavily on seven talented incoming freshmen, as well as last year's point-leader, sophomore Kaitlyn Lima.  Other returning contributors will be co-captains seniors Danielle Kent, Deanna McMahon, Stefanie Faucher, and junior Taylor Evans. Sophomore Morgan Stott will be the team's starting goalkeeper as Curry looks to qualify for the conference tournament for a second straight year.

MEN'S SOCCER: 7th of 10

Curry College (7-8-4, 2-4-3 CCC) eighth-year head coach Peter Mendel and the Colonels return the nucleus of their 2013 squad. Offensively, Curry returns senior midfielder Nick Gilman, who finished last season with 11 total points on four goals and three assists and junior Matt Cotnoir, who finished the season with seven goals, eight assists and 22 total points. Senior defender Sam Babchuck will anchor the backline as the Colonels seek to move up the conference ranks.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: 7th of 9

Curry College (11-6, 5-3 CCC) seventh-year head coach Richard Murray welcomes back a trio of talented returners, while adding a solid group of six newcomers. Senior Ali Rhodes and sophomore Kimberly Love will be serving as the team's co-captains. Rhodes, Love and sophomore Kayla Prete will contribute to what Coach Murray expects to be another successful season.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: 9th of 9

Curry College (9-18, 0-8 CCC) fifth-year head coach Roberta Stannard will lead the Colonels in their fourth competitive season as a varsity squad. Curry has improved its overall win total in each of its first three varsity campaigns. The Colonels will look for offensive leadership from returning sophomore outside hitter Nicole Grambley and returning senior outside hitter Christina Wallis. Sophomore Makayla Hughes will provide the team with experience at the setter position. Sophomore Kayla Pedersen will return to her starting position at middle blocker.
