Women's Soccer Claims #8 Seed in CCC Tournament

MILTON, Mass. - Endicott College has earned the top seed for the 2013 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer championship, which begins with quarterfinal matchups on campus sites Saturday afternoon.

The Gulls (13-5-1 overall) earned the top seed in the conference tournament after compiling an almost spotless 8-1-0 record in CCC play. Endicott will host #8 seed Curry College (6-10-2, 1-7-1) in a quarterfinal contest Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Other quarterfinal matchups slated for Saturday include #2 seed Roger Williams University (16-2-2, 7-1-1) hosting #7 seed Western New England University (9-6-4, 3-3-3) at 1:00 p.m. RWU is currently ranked 19th in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Women's Soccer National Poll and 10th in the latest NCAA Division III New England Regional Rankings. In addition, #3 seed Gordon College (15-4-0, 7-2-0) will host #6 seed Eastern Nazarene College (11-6-1, 4-4-1) at 2:00 p.m., while #4 seed University of New England (8-8-2, 4-3-2) will host #5 seed Wentworth Institute of Technology (6-8-4, 4-3-2) at 12:00 p.m. The ENC at Gordon matchup will be part of a men's/women's conference tournament doubleheader.

CCC tiebreaking procedures were used to determine the #4 seed in the tournament. Both University of New England and Wentworth completed the regular-season conference schedule with 14 points (4-3-2). In the first step of the tiebreaking procedure, head-to-head play between the two teams was examined, but a 2-2 tie on October 29 offered no relief.

In the second step of the process, the tied teams' results in conference play against the other CCC teams were compared. Both UNE and Wentworth posted 0-1 record against the top three teams in the regular season standings – Endicott, Roger Williams and Gordon. UNE ultimately claimed the fourth seed as a result of earning a 3-0 victory over sixth-seeded Eastern Nazarene, while Wentworth recorded a 3-3 tie.
