Women's Soccer Tripped Up 6-1 at Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead and never looked back, en route to its second straight win, a 6-1 triumph over Curry in Commonwealth Coast Conference action played on Sweeney Field.

With the win the Leopards improve to 4-5-2 overall and even their record at 2-2 in league play. The loss drops the Colonels to 6-6-0 overall and 1-3 in league play.

The Leopards scored just 2:53 into the contest when freshman Rachel Perras (Portsmouth, R.I.) fed a long pass to junior Olivia Moore (Salem, Conn.), who put a shot home to the right side. Curry had a chance to tie it in the fifth minute when Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) served a corner kick that was headed by sophomore Taylor Evans (Middleton, Mass.) and appeared to be going in. However, a Wentworth defender cleared the ball out just before it crossed the line.

Wentworth took a 2-0 lead when Moore scored at 11:12 as she beat the Colonel defense and put a shot home to the high left side.

At 28:14 Curry cut the lead to 2-1 when Evans broke in alone and buried a shot inside the right post. The game would remain 2-1 at the half with Wentworth holding a 14-5 shot advantage.

The Leopards increased their lead to 3-1 after freshman Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) served a cross to Moore who netted her third of the game at 61:32.

Sophomore Valeria Zapata (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored the next two goals, coming at 71:06 and 77:12 with assists going to junior Alexandrea Banks (Ellington, Conn.) and sophomore Jackie McCullough (Niskayuna, N.Y.), respectively.
