Women's Soccer Picks Up 3-1 Win at Rivier

NASHUA, N.H.- The Rivier University Women's Soccer team fell at home this evening in a non-conference contest against Curry College. The Colonels received a two goal game from senior Brittany McLaughlin (Wilmington, Mass.) as they captured victory by a 3-1 margin.

Sophomore Paxton LaRocque (Londonderry, N.H.) got the Raiders on the board first as she was able to convert a pass from senior Lauren Tamposi (Hollis, N.H.) with a beautiful chip shot that she tucked just inside the upper far corner. It was LaRocque's first goal of the season.

Curry was able to find the equalizer as McLaughlin recovered a loose ball rebound in front of the net and booted it home.

The Colonels came out on fire to begin the second half. After causing a turnover, freshman Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) was able to send a gorgeous thru ball to McLaughlin inside the 18. McLaughlin received the pass and dribbled around the outstretched goalkeeper for her second of the game and third of 2013.

Just one minute and 46 seconds later, Lima netted a goal of her own as she knocked home a pass from freshman Abigail Sadlers (Somerset, Mass.) over the head of Rivier senior goaltender Cassandra Brown (Somersworth, N.H.) for a 3-1 Curry lead.

Brown finished the game with eight saves while her counterpart, senior Hayley Lorge (Beverly, Mass.) was successful on 9 of 10 shots she faced on net.

Next up for the Raiders will be a GNAC game at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island on October 2nd. Curry will make the short drive to Wentworth for their next competition on Saturday afternoon.
