Women's Soccer Downs Johnson State, 3-1

JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State women's soccer fell 3-1 at home in non-conference play against Curry College Saturday afternoon.  The Badgers are now 1-2, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) and the Colonels stand at 2-0 overall, and 0-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play.

Johnson's Shannon Grier scored the Badgers' lone goal at the 86:41 mark, answering a late second half Curry goal.

Curry received tallies from Taylor Evans, Caterina Wilson and Kelly Parker, while Rachel Smith and Evans both contributed assists towards the win.

Johnson held Curry 0-0 until the 35:10 mark when sophomore Taylor Evans, unassisted, sent a shot into the corner of the net just above Johnson keeper Amber McCullock's finger tips. Then, with just 30 seconds remaining in the half, freshman Rachel Smith snagged a rebound off of Johnson to set up Caterina Wilson for Curry's second goal.

After the half, Curry continued to pressure Johnson State's defense. With 11 minutes left in the second half, Kelly Parker notched a goal for the Colonels giving them a 3-0 advantage. Evans was credited with the assist. The Badgers rallied with four minutes to go in the game, allowing Shannon Grier to send a ball from the 19 yard line into the back of Curry's net. The match ended 3-1 Curry.

The Colonels outshot the Badgers 28-4 overall and took 12 corner kicks to Johnson's one. 

In goal, McCullock stopped 6 shots for the Badgers while Curry's Hayley Lorge was credited with the win making 2 saves.

Johnson State will host Newbury College on September 8th with a 1:00 p.m. game start.  The Colonels will continue their road trip and travel to Lyndon State on Sunday for a for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
