Women's Soccer Battles Lesley University to a 1-1 Double Overtime Tie

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College battled Lesley University to a 1-1 double overtime tie, in non-conference women's soccer action on Thursday evening in Milton.  With the tie, the Colonels improve to 3-2-1 on the season.  The Lynx now hold an overall record of 5-1-1.

Curry was the first to get on the board at the 34:28 minute mark.  Freshman Taylor Evans (Middleton, Mass.) put the Colonels ahead 1-0 after she received a pass from classmate Kiley Farrell (Rockland, Mass.).  Both teams battled throughout the rest of the frame but Curry was able keep the one goal lead heading into the break.

Lesley’s Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.) answered with the equalizer just 10 minutes out of halftime, when at 54:40 the junior tied the contest with her first goal of the season on a feed from freshman Melinda Robinson (Plano, Texas).  After a scoreless 35 minutes to round out the second half, neither team could find the back of the net for the game-winner and headed into overtime.

The Lynx outshot the Colonels 21-11 in regulation with senior netminder, Samantha Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.), making 11 saves and Lesley’s sophomore goalkeeper Emileigh Lloyd (Middletown, Pa.) making six stops.

The Lynx came within inches of running off with a win midway through the first overtime, when senior Jamie Coyne (Mansfield, Mass.) hit the goalpost at 95:20. Juniors Brittney McLaughlin (Wilmington, Mass.) and Alayna Coakley (Grafton, Mass.) also had chances in the first OT but Lloyd made two big saves to send the teams into the second overtime.

Lesley outshot Curry nine to one in the final 10 minutes of play.  The last shot came with just three seconds on the board when the Lynx senior forward, Jamie Coyne (Mansfield, Mass.) took a shot just outside the 18-yard box that sailed directly towards the upper right hand corner of the net.  Hardy however made her best save of the night, leaping into the air to make the catch.

The Colonels were outshot 32-16 on the night.  Lesley also put 17 shots on goal compared to 10 for Curry.  The Lynx held a slight advantage in corner kicks with five, while the Colonels had four.

Hardy finished with 16 saves, her best on the season in goal for Curry.  Lloyd made nine saves in net for Lesley.

The Colonels will host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Wentworth on Saturday, September 22 during homecoming weekend for an 11:00 a.m. kick off.  Lesley opens New England Collegiate Conference play, also on Saturday, at 1:00 p.m. when they travel to Southern Vermont.
