Women's Soccer Earns First Win of the Season Defeating Johnson State, 4-0

MILTON, Mass.-  Curry College defeated Johnson State, 4-0, in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon in Milton.  With the win, the Colonels improve to 1-2 overall.  The Badger’s fell to 1-2 on the season.

Curry got on the board first at the 13:05 mark when junior Alexsa Hesford (Scituate, R.I) received a through pass from junior Alayna Coakley (Grafton, Mass.). Sophomore Mary Blythe (Montpelier, Vt.) scored her first tally of the season for the Colonels at 27:05. Sophomore Danielle Kent (Pocassett, Mass.) was credited with the assist. Curry continued to pressure Johnson State’s defense and were able to put up one more point before the end of the first half.  Freshman Kiley Farrell (Rockland, Mass.) earned her first collegiate goal, unassisted, with just 2:15 left to play in the opening frame.

The Colonels outshot the Badgers 11-6 in the first half. 

The Colonel’s did not waste much time scoring their final score of the game just 7:45 into the second half. Freshman Felicia Vieira (Bristol, R.I.) also scored her first collegiate goal, when she was assisted by Farrell.  The Badger’s took four shots but couldn’t put one past the Colonel’s goalkeepers.  

The Colonel’s total shots of the game were 29 while Johnsons State managed just 10. 

The Badger’s split their goaltending time between sophomore’s Ashlee Trayah (Williston, Vt.) and Katja Langmaid (Enosburg Falls, Vt.). Trayah made three saves, while Langmaid made one in the loss.  In net for the Colonels were; senior Samantha Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.) who made three stops in 45:00 minutes of play.  Junior Haley Lorge (Beverly, Mass.) made two saves in 35:20 minutes and sophomore Christine Hillier (Westborough, Mass.) made one save to finish out the game and help shutout Johnson State.

The Colonels will travel to Framingham State University on Tuesday, September 11, for a 4:00 p.m. contest. Johnson State will host Newbury College on September 9 with a 1:00 p.m. game start.
