Women's Soccer Announces 2013 Schedule and Team Captains
MILTON, Mass. – Next fall, the Colonels' women’s soccer team will compete in 19 regular-season games, playing 10 Commonwealth Coast Conference games and nine non-league games. The season opener will be at home on Saturday August 31 at 1:00 p.m. against Rhode Island College (RIC).

In 2013, the Colonels will play nine games at home and 10 on the road. In addition to RIC, Curry will play newly added non-conference games against Rivier and Lyndon State. Other non-conference opponents will include Johnson State, Framingham State, Emmanuel, Colby-Sawyer, Fitchburg State, Wheelock and Massachusetts Maritime. September will be highlighted by a weekend doubleheader with the men’s team in Vermont against Johnson State and Lyndon State on September 7-8.

Jason Tassinari will be entering his second season at the helm of the Curry Women’s Soccer Team, having improved the team’s overall record by three games in his first season as head coach of the Colonels.

“This will be my first full off-season with the program, and I’m very excited to start preparing the team for even more success next fall,” says Tassinari. “My coaching staff and I are excited about the direction the program is headed in, and we’re very much looking forward to our 2013 season.”

Coach Taz has named Alexsa Hesford (Senior, Scituate R.I.), Tiana Stanton (Senior, Springfield, Mass.) and Brittany McLaughlin (Senior, Wilmington, Mass.) as his 2013 captains.  Hesford and Stanton started all 19 games on defense for the Colonels in 2012, and McLaughlin was the team’s only CCC All-Conference representative (Honorable Mention).

“Alexsa, Tiana, and Brittany are each great representatives of Curry, the athletic department, the program, the coaching staff, and their teammates,” Tassinari says. “I am excited that they will be the captains of our 2013 team.  Each of them is hard-working and care deeply about the current and future success of the program. Most importantly, they are solid students and citizens as well.”

Curry finished with an overall record of 6-11-2 in 2012. In addition to the three captains, Tassinari will be relying heavily on his other three seniors (Caitlyn Tobyne, Hayley Lorge, and Alayna Coakley) to provide solid leadership on and off the field.

“Although we have three captains, we really have six ‘leaders’.  All six of my seniors will be responsible for modeling the way for the younger the players. In addition to my three captains, I will be relying heavily on my other three seniors to lead the program as well. All of them will work collectively as a unified group of seniors to help keep the team emotionally invested and constantly focused on the goals we have set for both the short and long terms.”

The program graduated just four seniors from its 2012 roster.

“Success never comes easily,” notes Tassinari. “It’s going to take every player on the roster and all of us on the coaching staff to continue the re-building process that we successfully started last year. I firmly believe that all my returning players all understand what it takes to be successful, not only individually, but collectively as well.  We play in a very tough conference, but I am confident that my team is prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. With the infusion of an impactful group of new and exciting freshmen and a solid group of returners, I think we will make tremendous strides next fall.”
