BRISTOL, Conn. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team let up 15 first half goals to the Hawks of Roger Williams on Saturday afternoon in a 19-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) loss in Bristol, Conn. After the defeat, the Colonels sit at 5-5 on the year and 1-2 in conference play. Roger Williams improves to 6-3 overall while remaining perfect through a pair of CCC games.

Coming off their first conference win of the year, the Colonels were gunning for a 2-1 start. The Hawks changed those plans quickly, however, as Emily Stoeppel (Brookfield, Conn.) scored just 1:14 into the game off a helper from Shayne Rivard (Easton, Conn.). Abby Dubel (Wolfeboro, N.H.) netted the equalizer for the visitors with 26:23 remaining in the first half, but the contest would be all Roger Williams from there. From the 26 minute mark, the Hawks tallied six goals in a span of eight minutes to make the score 7-1. Over the life of the rally, Stoeppel and Lauren Flahive (Foxborough, Mass.) each scored their second markers of the day. Just three minutes later, Flahive was at it again to grab a first half hat trick to make the game 8-1. With 13 minutes remaining on the first half clock, Curry got an opportunity to make some noise as the first card of the game was issued to Roger Williams, giving the Colonels a player advantage. However, the Hawks kept the momentum squarely on their side, killing the first 1:45 of the two minute penalty before scoring a man-down goal to take an eight score lead. Over the final 11 minutes of the first half, the hosts scored six more goals, including Stoeppel's fourth of the game on a last second shot. Curry book-ended the second half scoring with goals from Andria Torres (Milford, Conn.) to start the frame and Katie Parker (Branford, Conn.) to close out the match-up, but the effort would not be enough to keep up with the hosts who scored four goals in the period to keep the clock running over the final 39 minutes of action before locking up a 19-3 victory.

Stoeppel led all scorers with five goals and two assists as the senior picked up seven points on the day. Flahive (4 goals, 1 assist) and Rivard (2 goals, 3 assists) registered five points each in the win. Madi Drain (Waterboro, Maine) also contributed to the victory, pouring in six draw controls, five ground balls, a pair of caused turnovers, with a goal and an assist. Lydia Nelson (Center Moriches, N.Y.) and Hannah Goodwin (Bradford, Mass.) each played a half in goal for the Roger Williams, combining to stop two of the five Curry shots on net. Jessica Ginaitt (Warwick, R.I.) picked up three saves on the day for Curry while Sharon Doherty (North Easton, Mass.) registered the only two Colonel assists of the contest.

On Tuesday, April 2, the Colonels return to CCC action with a 7:00 p.m. game at Salve Regina. Roger Williams will also get back on the field on Tuesday, as they stay home to host conference opponent Gordon at 4:00 p.m.
