Women's Lacrosse Drops 19-9 Decision at the University of New England

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England Women's Lacrosse team defeated visiting Curry College, 19-9, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Wednesday evening (Apr. 18) at the Big Blue Turf.

With the win the Nor'easters improve to 5-8 overall and 2-4 the CCC. The loss drops the Colonels to 4-9 on the season and 1-5 in the CCC.

The offense received three scores from both Keara Dwyer and Molly Camelo, with two more from Megan O'Grady and Anna Stowell. Jolena Lampron also registered two goals, along with game-highs of eight caused turnovers, six draw controls, and seven ground balls. Maritza Nary made six stops for the goalkeeping decision.

On the Curry side, Abby Dubel totaled four goals, four draws, and seven ground balls. Leona Stevens contributed three goals, while Colleen Donnelly and Kayla Merritt each notched one tally.  Goalkeeper Amy Collard recorded an impressive 22 saves.

The Nor'easters led 4-0 after nearly 19 minutes of action, behind a pair from Camelo, and took an 8-4 cushion into the midway break. The Colonels earned their four goals off a pair by Dubel and one each from Stevens and Merritt.  Curry netted the first of the second but UNE answered back with three of their own. Stevens and Dubel tallied back to back goals minutes later for a 14-8 score but the Nor'easters went on to outscore the Colonels 5-1 in the last 13 minutes of the game. 

UNE stays to home to face Nichols College on Saturday (4 p.m.).  Curry travels to Wentworth on Saturday (12 p.m.) for a CCC match-up.
