MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team fell to Roger Williams University, 16-4 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Tuesday at the Walter M. Katz Field. The loss drops the Colonels to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the CCC while the Hawks improves to 9-3 on the season and 4-1 in the CCC.
Curry was led by sophomore Abigail Roy (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Katie Parker (Branford, Conn.) who each had two goals apiece. Sophomore Abby Dubel (Wolfeboro, N.H.) was tied for a game-high five draw controls.
Roger Williams was led by senior Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.) who had a game-high of six points on four tallies and two helpers. Following Hogan was freshman Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine) who finished with five points on two goals and three assists. Junior Emily Stoeppel (Brookfield, Conn.) tied Dubel in draw controls with five while also netting two goals and dishing in an assist for three points. The Hawks freshman Delana Erickson (Concord, N.H.) also had three points as she scored a hat trick. Two players had two point efforts from freshman Maeve Gillis (Duxbury, Mass.) and senior Carly Martin (Scituate, Mass.) who each had two goals. Rounding out the scoring for Roger Williams was sophomore Shayne Rivard (Easton, Conn.) who tallied one goal.
The Hawks netted the first 14 scores of the game before the Colonels got on the board at the 18:06 minute mark of the second period. Roger Williams answered back followed by another Curry tally just two minutes later. The teams played strong defense over the next nine minutes until the Colonels netted their third of the game with 2:19 showing on the clock. The Hawks won the ensuing draw control and took the ball straight to cage and fired in their 16th and final goal on the day. Curry kept their momentum going and with just 15 seconds left in regulation scored their fourth and final off a free position shot.
Collard took the loss in cage for Curry making an impressive 16 saves. Roger Williams's sophomore Lydia Nelson (Center Moriches, N.Y.) earned the win in net making one save and allowing zero goals in 30:00 minutes. Freshman Addie Di Scipio (Falls Church, Va.) came in for Nelson in the second half and made three saves and allowing four goals in 30:00 minutes.
Curry will next play on Tuesday as they host non-conference opponent Simmons College at 4:00 p.m. Roger Williams is next in action on Saturday as they host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Western New England at 12:00 p.m.
