DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Curry College Women's Lacrosse team lost to host UMass Dartmouth, 15-5, on Friday evening in Dartmouth, Mass.

How it Happened

The Corsairs picked up the initial marker with 26:06 in the opening half when Julia DiPillo (Medway, Mass.) converted a free-position chance, depositing the goal over the head of the opposing keeper for her 11th marker of the year. After Curry tied it up at one apiece, Kasey Hayes (Medway, Mass.)  regained the advantage for the host when she duplicated her teammate's goal with a leaping-effort to find the top left corner of the target.

UMass Dartmouth increased the lead with three rapid-fire goals, separating on the scoreboard with a 5-1 lead. With 12:23 remaining before the intermission, Gabby Giangrande (Westbrook, Conn.) split the defense when she cut across the crease, notching her first marker of the game when she fired across her body. Moments later, Leah Douty (Framingham, Mass.) honed in on her basketball expertise when she faded off her back foot to record her 15th marker of the season. Giangrande capped the offensive spurt when she finished a feed from Joria Todd (Upton, Mass.), bouncing the ball off of the turf and out of reach for the opposing keeper.

The Blue and Gold controlled the momentum and the scoring opportunities in the second half of play, outscoring the Colonels 10-3 in the final thirty minutes of action. The host set the tone from the opening whistle of the period, as Douty and Hayes converted back-to-back chances for the Corsairs. After Katie Parker (Branford, Conn.) converted the first goal of the half for Curry, UMass Dartmouth went on to put in five unanswered markers with four different players participating in the flurry. With 3:43 remaining in the contest, senior Raquel Riley (Wakefield, Mass.) deposited her second of the game, becoming the fifth Corsair to reach the mark in the game, giving the 15-5 final score.
