Women's Lacrosse Drops Conference Contest at Roger Williams, 19-3

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team posted its largest margin of victory this season with a 19-3 win over Curry College Wednesday evening.

The Hawks snagged three quick goals in the first five minutes of the game, beginning with a Marin Owens (Brookline, N.H.) coming down the field and putting in the first score. McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Shayne Rivard (Norwood, Mass.) would each connect for goals for a 3-0 RWU lead.

 Curry's Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.) would win the ensuing draw and make her way into the arc for the Colonels' first goal. Emily Stoeppel (Brookfield, Conn.) and Malorie Knowlton (Norfolk, Mass.) traded goals for both teams as RWU still lead by two halfway through the period. However, outscored Curry 7-1 over the final ten minutes of play for a commanding 11-3 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Roger Williams shut down the Colonel offense, holding Curry scoreless over the 30 minutes of play and allowing only two shots in the half. The Hawks managed to put eight goals on the board in the half on 18 shots.

Everding finished with seven points on five goals and two assists. Owens and Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.) each tallied four goals for RWU. Alayna Fogg (Norwood, Mass.) had four ground balls, three draw controls, and four caused turnovers for RWU.

Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) earned the win, needing only two saves. Lydia Nelson (Center Moriches, N.Y.) made her Hawk debut, making one save and becoming the first Hawk in net other than Bolk since the 2015 season.

Parker, Knowlton, and Abby Dubel (Wolfeboro, N.H.) each scored for Curry in the game. Abby Carnevale (Beverly, Mass.) led the Colonels with three ground balls. Keeper Rachel Smith (Arlington, Mass.) had 15 saves and eight ground balls in the loss.

Roger Williams (6-3, 1-1 CCC) travels to Salve Regina next Wednesday, while Curry (3-6, 0-2 CCC) hosts Worcester State on Thursday.
