Women's Lacrosse Tripped Up By UMass.-Dartmouth, 17-6

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-7 non-conference contest to visiting UMass.-Dartmouth on Thursday at Walter M. Katz Field. The Corsairs improve to 3-2 with the victory while the Colonels fall to 3-4.

Curry began the contest with two straight goals, one apiece from Abby Dubel (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and Malorie Knowlton (Norfolk, Mass.). Taylor Hill (Braintree, Mass.) would get UMass.-Dartmouth on the board at the 24:48 mark with a goal off an assist from Leah Douty (Framingham, Mass.). That goal sparked a 7-0 run that helped the Corsairs gain an 8-2 advantage with 11:34 left in the first stanza.

The Colonels would go on a mini 2-0 near the end of the first half, thanks to goals by Abby Carnevale (Beverly, Mass.) and Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.). UMass.-Darmouth would have the final tally in the first stanza after Gabby Giangrande (Westbrook, Conn.) found the back of the net to give the Corsairs a 9-4 lead heading into the intermission.

Carnevale opened the second half with a goal to trim the deficit to four at 9-5 but following the goal, UMass.-Dartmouth would embark on 6-0 run on goals by Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.), Hill, Catrina Longo (Billerica, Mass.), Douty and Julia DiPillo (Medway, Mass.) to take a 15-5 lead with 20:43 left in regulation.

Rachael Lawrence (Hanover, Mass.) stopped the Corsair run with a goal of her own with 14:38 remaining off a free position shot to pull within nine. Kish answered back with a tally at 10:30 left to push the lead back to double digits and then DiPillo scored the final tally of the contest off an assist from Kish to give UMass.-Dartmouth the 17-6 victory with 8:08 left in regulation. 

Kish led all players with five points on three goals and two assists. Longo registered a hat trick while four other Corsairs recorded two goals apiece. Giangrande and Angela Correia (Bridgewater, Mass.) pitched in one goal each to close the scoring for UMass.-Dartmouth.

Carnevale paced Curry with two goals while five others registered a goal apiece in the loss.

Kaitlyn Burchill (Burchill, Mass.) picked up the win in the cage for the Corsairs, making 18 saves in 52:29 minutes of action. Rachel Smith (Arlington, Mass.) absorbed the loss, making seven saves in 60 minutes.

Curry opens conference play on Friday at home in a 3:30 p.m. draw against Gordon. UMass.-Dartmouth will next play Saturday as they will host Bridgewater State at noon.
