Women's Lacrosse Topped By Smith, 14-6

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team closed out their play in the Sunshine State with a 14-6 loss to Smith at Franz Ross Park. The Pioneers improve to 5-1 while the Colonels fall to 2-3.

Smith opened the contest on a 6-0 run that lasted until the 9:11 mark in the first half. Courtney Lima got Curry on the board with a goal at the 8:19 mark on an assist by Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.). Parker would find Rachael Lawrence with two minutes remaining in the first stanza to help the Colonels cut the deficit to six at 8-2. The Pioneers tallied one more goal before the end of the half to take a 9-2 lead into the intermission.

Parker started the second half with two straight goals to pull within five at 9-4 but Caroline Myran scored to push the Smith lead back to six. The Pioneers outscored Curry 4-1 over the final 16:13 to take the game by a 14-6 final.

Parker led the Colonels with a hat trick and two assists for five points. Lima, Knowlton and Lawrence closed out the scoring for Curry.

Rachel Smith (Arlington, Mass.) made 11 saves in the cage for the Colonels.

Curry returns to action on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. for a matchup at Simmons.
