Women's Lacrosse Earns First Win in Florida Defeating Morrisville State, 14-8

BRADENTON, Fla. – Curry College used a five goal run in the first 10 minutes of the second half to top Morrisville State College women's lacrosse by a 14-8 final Tuesday morning in Bradenton, Florida.

The loss drops the Mustangs to 1-2 overall.  With the win the Colonels improve to 2-1 on the season

Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.) led Morrisville State's efforts with three goals, while teammate Angela Marriott (Peekskill, N.Y.) added a pair.

Three additional Mustangs posted one apiece including Elizabeth Leva (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.), Ashley Williams (Deer Park, N.Y.) and Jackie O'Sullivan (Cazenovia, N.Y.). Brianna DelColle (Huntington, N.Y.) recorded an assist.

Cailin Dunphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) recorded the loss, turning away 10 between the pipes for Morrisville State.

Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.) had five goals and assisted another to lead Curry, three that were tallied in the opening minutes of the second half.  Hanna Peper (Wayland, Mass.) netted two goals and dished in an assist.  Malorie Knowlton (Norfolk, Mass.) tallied three goals while teammate Lauren Carroll (Providence, R.I.) had two and Rachael Lawrence (Hanover, Mass.) and Abby Carnevale (Beverly, Mass.) each had one.  Alexis Cran (Branford, Conn.) had seven draw controls, five caused turnovers and four groundballs.

Annie Douglas (Manchester, N.H.) posted the win, making two stops for Curry.

Morrisville State trailed 5-4 at the break before Curry opened with five straight tallies in the second half to take the 10-4 lead.

Leva broke the Mustangs scoring drought with an unassisted tally at the 18:42 mark before the Mustangs rattled off two additional goals to close the gap to 11-7.

Curry closed the half with three straight in three minutes time late in the half, doubling up Morrisville State to collect the win.

Morrisville State held the 15-9 advantage in draw controls on the day, 14 won by Leva. Curry edged the Mustangs in the ground ball battle, 21-19, and held the 29-15 advantage in shots.

The Mustangs return to the fields Thursday, playing Keene State College before returning home to Drake Field.  The Colonels return to the fields also on Thursday to play Norwich in a 4:00 p.m. start.  (Game Recap Courtesy of Morrisville Sports Information)
