Erin Riley (Wakefield, MA) put Salem State on the board in the first three minutes of the contest with a free position. Curry was rewarded with a free position chance moments later, but it was stopped by the stick of Vikings' goaltender Jenn Toussaint (Reading, MA). Carolyn Woodin (Arlington, MA) enhanced the Salem State lead to 2-0 when Kristina Conlon (Dracut, MA) assisted her at the 22:46 mark.

Despite the early success in the offensive end, the Colonels outshot the Vikings 18-7, 12 of which were on goal. Curry College went on a 4-0 run that began with a Brooke Harrington (Mansfield, MA) goal off a free position. During that stretch, Alexis Cran (Branford, CT) tallied two goals while Malorie Knowlton (Norfolk, MA) added one.

Ahead 4-2, Salem State finally answered when Paige Giuliano (Braintree, MA) went coast-to-coast to cut the deficit to 4-3. Curry answered with two goals coming from Kelly Parker (Branford, CT) and Knowlton to take a 6-3 advantage. Just before the half, Madison Kingston (Braintree, MA) added a goal for the Vikings as the teams entered halftime with Salem State trailing the Colonels 6-4.

Riley added her second goal of the game in the opening minutes of the half to bring the Vikings to within one, but that score would be quickly erased by a Parker goal. Conlon brought the score to 7-6 when she beat Annie Douglas (Manchester, NH) low. Curry retaliated with three unanswered goals to take a 10-6 lead with 12:39 left after goals from Abby Carnevale (Beverly, MA), Rachael Lawrence (Hanover, MA), and Knowlton. The Vikings made a final push as they added two goals to bring the score to 10-8, but it wouldn't be enough as the Colonels tagged Salem State for two more goals before the final horn as Curry College went on to win 12-8.

Curry College out shot Salem State 32-17 while leading with 35 groundballs compared to the Vikings 28. Douglas (1-1) only needed to stop two shots for the win while Toussaint made 13 saves in her debut. Riley finished with three goals and an assist for Salem State while Conlon had a goal and three assists.

Salem State will host the University of Maine-Farmington on March 19th at 3:00 p.m. while the Colonels will travel to Bradenton, Florida to take on Morrisville State at 10:00 a.m. on March 15th.
