Women's Lacrosse Knocked off 18-6 by the University of New England

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's lacrosse team lost to the University of New England, 18-6 at Walter M. Katz Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss the Colonels fall to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action while the University of New England Nor'easters improve to 7-7 overall and 4-2 in CCC play.

Sophomore midfielder Kelly Parker led the Colonels with three points on a goal and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Malorie Knowlton had two tallies and sophomore midfielder Rachael Lawrence, sophomore defenseman Abby Carnevale and sophomore attack Lauren Carroll each recorded a goal in the loss.

Senior midfielder Rachel Schwaner recorded five points on four goals and an assist to lead the Nor'easters. Senior attack Gina Newsome contributed three tallies and a helper. Senior midfielder Hannah Warren and senior attack Nikki Smith each added three goals in the win.

University of New England jumped out to an early 2-0 lead less then a minute into the game with goals from Warren and Smith. Curry would get on the score sheet at 25:37 when Parker scored off a free position shot. The Nor'easters answered back with four straight goals to take a 6-1 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the half. After a goal a piece from the Colonels and Nor'easters, Curry would cut the lead down to 7-4 when Carnevale and Knowlton scored about a minute apart from each other. With less than five minutes showing on the board, University of New England went on to net four straight goals.  Sophomore midfielder Natasha Nary, Newsome, Schwaner and Warren each had a score to close out the first half of the game. The four unanswered goals gave the Nor'easters an 11-4 lead at the break.

University of New England started off the second half scoring with two quick goals coming 11 seconds apart from each other, the first at 28:26 when sophomore midfielder Kimberly Gosselin scored off an assist from Nary. Sophomore attack Brooke Kelleher would score at 28:17 from an assist from Gosselin. The Nor'easters would score two more goals minutes later from Schwaner and Newsome before Curry registered their own at the 16:50 mark on a man-up tally from Knowlton. University of New England scored at the 12:11 and 7:11 mark with goals from Warren and Schwaner. Carroll got on the score sheet off a free position shot for the Colonels with 5:30 remaining in the game. The Nor'easters finished off the Colonels when Smith scored off a free position shot with two minutes left for the 18-6 victory.

The Colonels senior goalkeeper, Christina Wallis recorded thirteen saves. The Nor'easters junior goalkeeper, Courtney Kendall started the game before giving way to junior goalkeeper Lauryn Huck.  The two combined for thirteen stops for the win.

Curry is next in action when they travel to non-conference opponent River on Thursday, April 16 at 7:00 pm. University of New England will host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Roger Williams University on Saturday, April 18 at 4:00 pm.
