Women's Lacrosse Upended 19-10 by CCC Opponent Western New England

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Lacrosse team lost to Western New England College at Walter M. Katz Field on Saturday afternoon, 19-10. With the loss the Colonels fall to 5-8 overall and 1-4 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action while the Golden Bears improve to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in CCC play.

Sophomore midfielder Malorie Knowlton led the Colonels with five points on four goals and one assist. Sophomore midfielder Kelly Parker and sophomore midfielder Rachael Lawrence each recorded two goals and an assist in the loss.

Senior attack Kaitlynn Stevens recorded a game-high 11 points with seven goals and four assists to lead the Golden Bears. Junior attack Taylor Scialdone contributed five goals.

Western New England took an early 5-0 advantage just ten minutes into the game. Senior midfielder Jessica Scannapieco tallied the opening score less than three minutes into the game.  Curry got on the scoresheet at 18:49 when Knowlton scored off a free position shot. The Golden Bears responded with two more nets, one from Scialdone and Scannapieco. The Colonels cut the lead to 9-4 after netting back-to-back goals, the first at 8:18 from junior defenseman Alexis Cran followed by sophomore attack Lauren Carroll. Western New England found the back of the net for their tenth of the game with 1:24 remaining in the half from Stevens. The final minute saw each team scoring, starting with a Colonels goal coming by Knowlton with just 46 seconds remaining. The Golden Bears would end the half with a goal from freshman attack Julia Winer with 21 seconds showing on the clock to head into the break leading 11-5.

Western New England got on the board 53 seconds into the second for a seven goal lead. Curry wouldn't go down without a fight however as they registered four unanswered goals. Parker and Lawrence scored twenty seconds apart from each other at the 25:40 and 25:20 minute marks. Parker would net her second of the game with 23:15 remaining in the game. Knowlton followed of an assist from Lawrence with just over 21 minutes remaining to put the Colonels within three. That would be the closest Curry would come within Western New England as the Golden Bears went on a five-goal run, led by Scialdone and Stevens who each recorded two. With 8:30 remaining, Lawrence netted the Colonels tenth and final score.  Western New England found the back of the net two more times before the horn for the 19-10 victory.

The Colonels senior goalkeeper, Christina Wallis recorded a career-high 16 saves. The Golden Bears senior goalkeeper, Emily Castelman recorded two stops in the victory while freshman Shannon McFadden recorded three saves after coming into the game with 23:15 remaining in the second half.
