Women’s Lacrosse Outlasts Wentworth, 16-11

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team defeated Wentworth, 16-11 on Saturday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field.  With the win the Colonels improve to 4-5 overall and even out at 1-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.  The Leopards fall to 2-3 and 0-3 in the CCC.

Sophomore midfielder Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.) led all goal scorers with nine points on five goals and four assists. Sophomore attack Rachael Lawrence (Hanover, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Malorie Knowlton (Norfolk, Mass.) each had four points.   Other goal scorers or the Colonels were; sophomore attack Lauren Carroll (Providence, R.I.) who netted three, junior midfield Alexis Cran (Branford, Conn.) who tallied two and junior attack Kayli Travassos (Cumberland, R.I.) who had one.

Wentworth was led by senior midfielder Jessica Houghton (Billerica, Mass.) and junior attack Pam Mudge (Hooksett, N.H.) who recorded three points apiece. Sophomore attack Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.) senior midfielder Alexandrea Banks (Ellington, Conn.) and senior midfielder Heather Saroch (Arnold, Md.) each recorded two goals.

The Leopards got on the scoreboard first just 40 seconds into the game on a goal Holland. The Colonels scored three unanswered goals, one each by Parker, Carroll and Cran, before the Leopards responded and cut the lead to 3-2 at the 17:19 mark. Curry went on to net six in a seven minute span to extend their lead by seven. Mudge netted one for Wentworth and Knowlton and Lawrence one for the Colonels before the break for an 11-3 half-time score

The Leopards got on the score sheet first in the second half just 1:03 in off a free position tally from Banks. After goals from Parker, Cran and Knowlton the Leopards went on a six goal run to cut the Colonels lead down to four. Curry outscored Wentworth 2-1 in the final minutes to hold on to their 16-11 win and first win in CCC play.

The Colonels senior goalkeeper Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) made nine saves in her fourth win on the season. The Leopards senior goalkeeper Robyn Pacini (Stoneham, Mass.) recorded a game-high 12 saves.

Curry is next in action on Tuesday, March 31 when they travel to Nichols College for a 4:00 p.m. game start. Wentworth hosts Endicott College on Wednesday, April 1 at 4:00 p.m.
