Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Salem State,13-6

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team defeated Salam State at Walter M. Katz Field on Wednesday afternoon, 13-6.  With the win the Colonels improve to 3-5 overall while the Vikings fall to 4-2 on the season.

Sophomore midfielder Kelly Parker recorded  a career-high nine points on five goals and four assist for the Colonels. Sophomore midfielder Malorie Knowlton and junior defenseman Alexis Cran each provided two goals and two assist for the Colonels for four points respectively.  

Salam State was led by junior attack Erin Riley and senior midfielder Kelsey Russell who each contributed a goal and an assist for the Vikings.

The Vikings jumped to an early 1-0 lead after the first three minutes of the game. That would be the only lead the Vikings would see in the game. After being tied 2-2, the Colonels scored six unanswered goals, three from Parker, one from Knowlton, Cran and sophomore midfielder Rachael Lawrence. The Vikings answered with two goals just 12 seconds apart from each other before closing out the half. The Colonels responded with an unassisted goal from Cran giving the Colonels a 9-4 advantage heading into break.

The Colonels played solid on defensive in the second half holding the Vikings to just two scores. Curry started off the frame tallying a goal from Parker seven minutes in. Salem answered with an unassisted goal from Riley but wouldn't see the back of the net until 14 seconds left in regulation. The Colonels recorded three unanswered goals to add to their lead. Junior midfielder Amanda Nihan netted her lone goal on the day at the 29:46 minute mark but the game ended 13-6 in favor of Curry.

The Colonels senior goalkeeper, Christina Wallis recorded 10 saves for her second straight win. The Vikings sophomore goalkeeper, Chyenne Jackson recorded a game-high fourteen saves in the loss.

Curry is next in action when they host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Wentworth on Saturday, March 28 at 3:30 p.m. Salam State will host Framingham State in conference play Saturday, March 28 in a 6:00 p.m. start time.
