Women’s Lacrosse Edges Simmons, 15-13

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team defeated Simmons College at Walter M. Katz Field on Monday evening.  With the win the Colonels improve to 2-5 while the Sharks fall to 1-5 overall. 

Sophomore midfielder Malorie Knowlton led all scorers with seven points on five goals and two assist.  Sophomore Kelly Parker finished with six points on two tallies and four helpers.  Junior midfielder Alexis Cran netted three and dished out two assists for five points and sophomore attack Lauren Carroll added three goals in the Colonels victory.

Simmons was led by freshman midfielder Kasey Fries who recorded four goals and two assist for six points on the night. Senior attacker Stephanie Oliveri contributed three goals and two assist for the Sharks.

The Sharks got on the board first after junior midfielder Greer Gilbert scored on a free position shot just 1:01 into the game. The Colonels answered back with four unanswered goals to take an early 4-1 lead.  The advantage however didn't last long as Simmons responded with four goals of their own to go ahead 6-5 with 20 minutes gone off the clock. The Colonels came firing back in the final 10 minutes with three goals, all from Knowlton, to head into break up 8-6.  

Cran started off the second half for the Colonels with a goal 14 second in. The Sharks responded with two goals to cut the deficit to one. Curry didn't let up though and refused to give up their lead. Curry netted three goals for a 15-11 advantage and despite the Sharks tallying two man down scores in the final few minutes, held on for the 15-13 victory.

The Colonels senior goalkeeper Christina Wallis recorded a season-high 14 saves. The Sharks senior goalkeeper Crystal Derosier recorded 12 stops.

Curry is next in action when they host Salem State on Wednesday, March 25 at 4:00 p.m. Simmons will travel to Albertus Magnus Wednesday, March 25 with a 4:00 p.m. start time.
