Women’s Lacrosse Upended by Johnson & Wales, 13-5

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team lost to undefeated Johnson & Wales in their first game at Walter M. Katz Field this season on Tuesday evening.

JWU (4-0) were led by the trio of junior midfielder Jessica Schmell, sophomore midfielder Lydia Knapp and freshman attack Raquel Pederzani who each recorded three goals.

Sophomore midfielder Malorie Knowlton, who netted three goals, led the Colonels (1-3). Sophomore midfielder Kelly Parker and junior defenseman Alexis Cran each had a pair of goals.

The Wildcats jumped to an early 4-0 lead in the first 17 minutes of the game with the first goal coming at 24:56 from an unassisted goal from Knapp. The Colonels got on the scoreboard at 11:19 from a free position shot from Parker. With three unanswered goals from the Wildcats, the Colonels ended the first half with two goals in the last two minutes from Cran and Knowlton to cut the Wildcats lead to 7-3.

In the second half, the Colonels cut the lead to 7-4 with a goal from Knowlton but just 33 seconds later; Pederzani netted her second of three goals. The Wildcats ended the game on a 4-0 run in the last 13 minutes to close out the game, 13-5.

The Colonels senior goalkeeper, Christina Wallis recorded seven saves. The Wildcats senior goalkeeper, Genevieve Giampietro recorded eight saves.

Curry travels to Emerson on Thursday, March 19 at 6:00. Johnson & Wales will host visiting Westfield State Thursday, March 19 with a 6:00 p.m. start time.
