Women's Lacrosse Falls to Visiting Emerson College in Season Opener, 8-6

MILTON, Mass. –Curry College lost to visiting Emerson College 8-6, in women's lacrosse action on Friday afternoon in Milton, Mass.  With the loss, the Colonels fall to 0-1 overall, while the Lions improve to 1-0.

The Lions came out strong to start the game tallying the first four goals.  Emerson got goals from Krystie Zoch (Mahwah, N.J.) off an assist by Kanika Misra (Patsdam), an unassisted net from Meredith Weber (West Caldwell) and back-to-back goals from Kate Lemire (Scituate, Mass.).  Guerin Morissette (Georgetown) was credited with one of the goals.  The Colonels finally got on the board at the 11:15 minute mark.  Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.) scored Curry's two goals of the half with one assist coming from Emma Bolton (Mahwah, N.J.).  The Lions held on to their lead heading into the second half. 

Emerson extended their lead when Lemire netted her third on the day unassisted.  Curry cut the deficit to one after scoring a pair less than two minutes apart.  Bolton scored off an assist from Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.) while Carey netted one unassisted.  The teams exchanged goals one right after the other by Emerson's' Zoch and Curry's Carey.  Zoch was assisted by Lemire, giving her four points and Carey off a pass from Rachael Lawrence (Hanover, Mass.).  Brickey tied the game on a man-down situation tying the score for the first time in the game.  The 6-6 tie didn't last long however as Righini netted the game-winner just under a minute later.  The Lions earned one more from Weber with 14:22 remaining in the stanza.  Solid play by Emerson's netminder Victoria Kanaris (Haworth, Northern Valley Demarest) held the Colonels to just six goals.  Curry had some good chances but couldn't find the back of the net and Emerson earned the 8-6 victory.

The Colonels were led by Carey who finished with four points on four goals.  The Lions were led by Lemire who also finished with four points on three goals and an assist.

Curry outshot Emerson 24-19.  On draws, the Colonels picked up 11 and the Lions 4.

Wallis made 11 saves in her 60:00 minutes of play for the Colonel's in the loss.  Kanaris made 16 saves in goal for Emerson to get their first win. 

Curry will host to Mount Ida College on Tuesday, March 4 for a 4:00 p.m. game start.  Emerson will travel to Salve Regina on Thursday, March 6 also for a 4:30 p.m. start.
