Women's Lacrosse Advances to CCC Semi-Finals With Thrilling 14-12 Come-From-Behind Win Over Roger Williams

MILTON, Mass. – In the Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinal game on Saturday afternoon, the #4 seed Curry College defeated the #5 seed Roger Williams University, 14-12.  With the win the Colonels advance to the semi-final game where they will travel to the #1 seed Western New England University.  Curry improves to 14-4 overall, while the Hawks end their season with a 6-11 overall record.

The Colonels opened the frame by netting the first two goals. The Hawks took the lead when they fired back with three of their own.  Curry tied it at 3-3 but Roger Williams fired off five in a row to go up 8-3.  The Colonels tallied two more but the Hawks answered back with the last two of the half both under a minute to head into the break with a commanding 10-5 lead.

Curry’s defense came out and used a combination of physical defense and patient offense to control the second half tempo. The Colonels reeled off three goals before Roger Williams would strike with one of only two in the final 30 minutes.  Curry began their comeback exactly a minute after the Hawks netted their 11th on the game.  The Colonels went on a six goal scoring frenzy over the next 20 minutes.  Curry held onto a three goal cushion until Roger Williams found the back of the net with 6:12 showing on the clock.  The Colonels won the final draw and with a mix of caused turnovers, two big saves by Curry’s goaltender and offensive ball possession, time ran out and the Colonels earned a 14-12 come from behind victory.

Longmeadow, Mass.) tallied two goals and dished in one assist.  Juniors Danielle Neagle (Avon, Conn.) and Catherine Smeykal (Collegeville, Pa.) rounded out the scoring
