MILTON, Mass. – In a non-conference match-up on Thursday evening, Curry College defeated Framingham, 21-2. With the win the Colonels improve to 12-3 overall. The Rams fell to 1-10 overall in the loss.
Curry was led by junior Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.) and freshman Emma Bolton (Saddle River, N.J.) who both finished the night with career-high eight points. Brickey tallied seven goals and had one assist, while Bolton scored six goals and helped on two. Brickey also won 11 draw controls, scooped up 10 ground balls and caused eight turnovers and Bolton won seven draws, had four ground balls and one caused turnover. Senior Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.) had a solid night with six points, netted two goals and chipping in with four assists. Framingham's junior Lauren Kent (Framingham, Mass.) led her team with two points on two goals.
The Colonels had three other scorers. Junior Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.) put up five points on four goals and an assist, and juniors Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.) and Caity Tobyne (Hamilton, Mass.) each had one.
Earning the win in the cage for Curry was sophomore keeper Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.), who made three saves and allowed two goals in the first 30:00 minutes of the game. Curry played both their freshman netminders. Kelton Vuilleumier (Duxbury, Mass.) stopped two and posted a shutout in 15:07 minutes and Annie Douglas (Manchester, N.H.) finished out the game seeing 14:53 minutes of play. Taking the loss in goal for Framingham was freshman Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) who made eight saves.
The Rams were the first to get on the board just 2:27 into the first period. The Colonels scored the next four before Framingham would tally their second and final goal of the game. Curry was able to net 10 more before the frame ended to head into the break with a 14-2 advantage.
The Colonels had possession of the ball most of the second half and were able to run time off the clock and allow a scoreless period for the Rams. Framingham was able to get two shots on net in the opening 15 minutes but Vuilleumier stopped both. Solid defense by the Colonels held the Rams without a shot the rest of the period. They also helped keep the ball on their offensive end with their caused turnovers. Curry netted seven more in the final minutes for the 21-5 victory.
Curry returns to action on Saturday, April 20 when they host conference opponent Western New England in a 4:00 p.m. game. Framingham travels to Bridgewater State on Saturday in a conference match-up for a 12:00 p.m. start.
