Women's Lacrosse Earns First Conference Win at Roger Williams, 11-7

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women’s Lacrosse team dropped their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest of the year to the Colonels of Curry College 7-11.  The Colonels exploded offensively in the second half outscoring the Hawks 10-1.  The Colonels improve to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in the CCC and the Hawks drop to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the CCC.

The Hawks used a combination of physical defense and patient offense to control the first half tempo. Roger Williams struck first at the 28:08 when Jessica Searl (Glastonbury, Conn.) found an open Lauren Piotrowski (Wakefield, Mass.) in front of the goal for the finish.  Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.) drove hard to the goal and evened the score for Curry at 16:59.  The Hawks regained the lead at the 12:50 when Searl tallied her second assist finding Kristen Pingree (Georgetown, Mass.) who turned and finished for her first of the day.  The Hawks increased the lead at 10:34 on a free position shot by Danielle Neagle (Avon, Conn.) to push the lead to two and conclude the first half scoring.

The second half opened in similar fashion with the Hawks netting the first goal. Andie Krefsky (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) took a pass from Neagle at 27:48 to give the RWU a 4-1 lead.

The Colonels found their offensive rhythm and turned the momentum of the game with an eight goal run that was fueled by consistent draw control possession.  The run began at 26:16 on an unassisted drive to the goal by Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.).  The second goal of the run was at 21:43 on a fast break assist by Emma Bolton (Saddle River, N.J.) to Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.) who finished on the mark. Brickey then assisted Bottary on a fast break to bring the game to 4-4.

At 18:44 the Colonels took their first lead of the game on a free position goal by Bolton.  Carey then netted two free position attempts 17:44 and 16:59 to give Curry a two goal cushion.  The momentum continued to build when Bolton scored her second of the day at 14:11.  Deanna Monfredo (west Islip, N.Y.) gave curry a five goal led at 13:20 to end the scoring run for the Colonels.

The Hawks scored at 8:20 on a free position attempt by Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) that put the Hawks back within four goals.

At 7:12 Carey drove hard to the net and scored unassisted goal for her fourth of the day with 4:34 left in game.

The Hawks scored the final two goals of the contest on a free position attempt at 4:03 by Caitlin Murphy and Pingree added her second with a 1:10 left in the game.
