Women's Lacrosse Earns Fourth Straight Win Defeating Wheelock College, 18-4

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College earned their fourth-straight win as they defeated visiting Wheelock College, 18-4.  With the win the Colonels improve to 4-1 overall, while the Wildcats fell to 0-3 on the season. 

Senior Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.) led Curry with eight points on five goals and three assists.  On defense, junior Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.) caused five turnovers, scooped up three ground balls and won 11 draw controls.  Brickey also netted two goals and chipped in with two assists for four points.   Sophomore Molly Centore (Kennebunk, Maine) matched her career high with a pair of goals to lead the Wheelock College. She also had a pair of ground balls.  On defense for the Wildcats, junior Katie Gavin (Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass.) had four ground balls, won three draw controls, caused one turnover and tallied one goal.

Sophomore attack Liz Randall (Westford, Mass.) netted her first collegiate goal on her only shot in her career debut.

The Colonels scored the first 13 goals of the night, led by a trio of scores each from freshman Emma Bolton (Saddle River, N.J.), Bottary and junior Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.).  Juniors Brickey, Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.) and Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, Vt.) and freshman Felicia Vieira each chipped in with one.  Gavin broke the string of goals for the Wildcats at the 1:06 mark with one of two goals that the visitors closed out the half with.  Centore also put a goal on the board with just 14 seconds left in the half for Wheelock. 

Centore carried her offensive momentum into the second period with the first tally of the stanza for the Wildcats coming with 26:30 to go in the contest to make it 13-3.  Curry scored three times over the next 14 minutes with two goals from Monfredo, Carey and Bottary, before Randall found the back of the net for her first goal for Wheelock at the 10:13 mark of the second half.  Bottary and Brickey scored a goal apiece in the final 8:50 of the match for Curry.

Freshman goaltender Kelton Vuilleumier (Duxbury, Mass.) turned away one shot in 30 minutes of play to earn the victory for Curry.  Sophomore Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) also made one save in 30 minutes in goal.  Junior goalie Monica Bettle (Pembroke, Mass.) made 15 saves for the Wildcats, while

Curry will host Manhattanville College on Friday, March 22 at 6:00 p.m.  Wheelock will be in action again on Tuesday, March 26 when it travels to Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 7:00 p.m.
