Women's Lacrosse Downs Becker College, 23-1

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Curry College Women’s Lacrosse team defeated Becker College 23-1 on Tuesday morning in West Palm Beach, Fla.  With the win the Colonels improve to 2-1 overall, while the Hawks fell to 0-2.

With the Colonels attack netting 23 goals and the defense allowing just one goal, the Curry team played a solid 60 minute game.  Current Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week junior Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.) had another outstanding showing.  On the defensive end, Brickey had a career-high 16 caused turnovers, won seven draw controls and scooped up five ground balls. Offensively she netted six goals and contributed on three for a season-high nine points.  Senior Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.), led the offensive with a career-high 12 points on five goals and seven assists.  Bottary also had two caused turnovers and three groundballs.

Juniors Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.) and Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.) were forces on attack.  Monfredo had six points on three goals and three assists and Carey finished with five points on five goals.  Carey also had three draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls.  Freshmen Emma Bolton (Saddle River, N.J.) and Alexis Cran (Bradford, Conn.) each enjoyed a solid effort in the mildfield.  Both players earned three points with Bolton netting two goals and adding an assist and Cran scoring one and chipping in with two helpers.  Bolton also had six caused turnovers, three draw controls and three ground balls.  Cran had four caused turnovers, four draw controls and four ground balls. Freshman Kaitlyn Cole (Colchester, Conn.) netted her first-collegiate goal to round out the scoring.

In net, Curry sophomore Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) made four stops in 30:00 minutes of play while allowing the lone Becker goal.  Freshman Kelton Vuilleumier (Duxbury, Mass.) earned a shutout in the second half, making one save in 30:00 minutes.

The Colonels play Fitchburg State University on Thursday, March 14 in a 6:00 p.m. game.
