WESTON, Mass. - Curry College defeated New England College 64-59 in a non-conference women's basketball game Monday afternoon at Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium.
With the win, the Colonels improve to .500 and an overall record of 3-3 on the season.
Lauren Dunn and Lauren Morse led the Colonels with nine and eight first-half points, combining for 17 of Curry's 28. After trailing 7-1 early in the game, the Colonels' offense was kickstarted by back-to-back layups from Dunn and Samantha Conti, while back-to-back threes from Morse ended the first quarter tied 18-18. The Curry defense held strong in the second quarter, allowing just six points by the visitors while Dunn and Morse each hit a three to help give the home team a 28-24 lead heading into halftime.
The Colonels extended their lead in the third and fourth quarters, led by Dunn who finished with a game-high 21 points and a team-high seven rebounds in addition to five steals and three assists. Morse had a big impact on the game, going 3-for-5 from behind the arc, and finishing with 11 points.
As a team, the Colonels shot 47.4 percent from behind the three-point line (9-for-19), while eight of Curry's nine active players scored at least one basket throughout the contest.
Curry College returns to action on Wednesday, December 4th, to take on Endicott College in the season's first Conference of New England matchup. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
