MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team fell at the hands of visiting Gordon College on Saturday afternoon by a score of 78-42. After the win, the Fighting Scots improve to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The Colonels move to 0-2 in the CCC with a 1-9 mark overall on the year.

The Fighting Scots took control early in the match-up, allowing just five points in the first quarter, none of which came in the final 3:38. While Curry's offense struggled to string scores together, Gordon stretched their lead to 22, as the first stanza closed with a 27-5 score.

After a layup by Hannah Vincent (Durham, N.H.) opened the scoring in quarter number two, Gina Coote (Dedham, Mass.) got the hosts back on the board with a bucket of her own, thanks to an assist from freshman Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.). With 5:35 to play in the half, a triple from Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) cut the Gordon lead to 17 at 31-14, but the Scots got back into the swing of things, outscoring the Colonels 19-14 in the frame, which was good enough to take a 46-19 advantage into the intermission.

Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) fueled the Colonels' offense out of the break, scoring half of the teams' points in the third quarter, but it would not be enough to gain ground on the charging Scots, who stretched their edge to 63-31 as the frame concluded.

The Colonels looked to force their visitors into mistakes, collecting three steals in the fourth quarter, matching their totals from each of the previous three frames, but Gordon's significant rebounding advantage (51-33) continued to earn the visitors extra possessions, as the Fighting Scots secured their first conference victory of the year on the road by a score of 78-42.

In the defeat, the Colonels were led by Dunn, who racked up seven points in 27 minutes. Remillard topped the team with three assists, while Coote pitched in seven boards. Olivia Gagnon (Pelham, N.H.) turned in 20 points and six helpers to drive the Gordon offense, while Sarah Gibbs (Elizabethtown, Pa.) registered 10 boards, also a team-high.

The Fighting Scots will head home to take on the Nichols College Bison on Tuesday, December 10 at 5:30 p.m. in another CCC match-up. The Colonels enter their winter break, but will return to the court on Saturday, January 4, as they host non-conference foe MCLA at 1:00 p.m.
