SALEM, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team dropped a 60-38 non-conference decision to Salem State on Saturday afternoon. With the defeat, the Colonels sink to 1-6, while the Vikings even up their record at 2-2.

The Vikings got out to a hot start, grabbing a 7-0 advantage to open the afternoon. A layup by Katie Smith (East Bridgewater, Mass.) gave the Colonels their first points of the day, sparking an 8-0 Curry run which gave them their first lead of the day which was capped by a bucket from Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.). However, the hosts closed the frame with eight unanswered points of their own to take a 15-8 lead into the first break.

Salem State continued to extend their lead as the second stanza opened, earning five straight points to stretch their lead to 12 at 20-8. The Colonels nearly matched their foes bucket-for-bucket, as the score made its way to 27-20, but once again, the Vikings closed the quarter strong, taking five of the half's final six points to make their halftime advantage 32-21.

After the intermission, Salem State broke the game open with a dominant third quarter, outscoring their guests 17-3 in the frame to take a 25-point lead into the final period. In the fourth, the teams went traded baskets, as scores by Imani Dotin (Cambridge, Mass.) and Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) brought the deficit back to 25, this time with a score of 56-31. The Colonels worked to chip away at their hosts' lead, but were playing against their foes and the clock and ran out of time. After a converted free throw by Alexa Galluci (North Stonington, Conn.) scored the last point of the match-up, the Vikings walked away with a 60-38 victory.

In the win, Courtney Paschal (Waltham, Mass.) led Salem State with 12 points, while Liz Zaiter (Peabody, Mass.) topped all players with 12 rebounds. Tatianna Iacoviello (Revere, Mass.) rounded out the Vikings' team leaders by recording four assists. The Colonels got contributions from several players, as each player to see game action registered at least two rebounds, led by the six of Gina Coote (Dedham, Mass.). All five Curry starters pitched in 5+ points, but it was Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) who topped the quintet with seven, which went along with a team-high three helpers.

The Colonels will return to work as they head home to host the Rams of Suffolk University on Tuesday, November 26 at 5:30 p.m. The Vikings will also get back to action on Tuesday, as they travel to take on the Brandeis Judges at 6:00 p.m.
