Irwin and Perine Earn NEWBA Regional Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team continued to rack up the awards, as senior Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Peyton Perine (Fairfax, Va.) were both honored by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) for their accomplishments during the 2018-19 season.

Irwin was named to the All-Region Third Team after a year that saw her average 19.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. The senior guard was tabbed the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week on three occasions, before earning the CCC Defensive Player of the Year Award. Irwin led the CCC and all of NCAA Division III in both steals (130) and steals per game (5.0). She departs the program as the Curry women's basketball all-time leader in career points (1,657) and steals (486). Irwin has also been chosen as one of 23 seniors to play in the 2019 NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic on Saturday, March 23 on the campus of Springfield College at 1:00 p.m. She will play under the direction of coach Mike McDevitt (St. Joseph's College, Maine) with the White Jersey team.

Perine was honored with a spot on the All-Rookie Team, earning her place with a freshman campaign in which she scored 15.8 points per game to go along with 7.6 rebounds per game. The freshman scored 20+ points in 12 different games and recorded six double-doubles. Perine garnered CCC Rookie of the Week honors nine times on her way to the conference's Rookie of the Year Award. She heads into her sophomore season with 427 points, 204 total rebounds, and 19 blocks.
