Irwin's Near Quadruple-Double Not Enough as Endicott Tops Women's Basketball, 84-65

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College women's basketball team shot 47 percent in the second half to post a 84-65 victory over Curry College on Wednesday night in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener for both squads at the MacDonald Gymnasium.

The Gulls (3-2 overall, 1-0 CCC) drained a season-high 12 three-pointers and had four players connect from deep. Emily Pratt (Gardner, Mass.) netted 12 of her career-high and season-high 33 points in the first half and went 4-for-8 from long range. Shannon Gilbert (Easton, Conn.) shot 4-for-6 from three and finished with 15 points while Lexie Gellerman (West Hartford, Conn.) chipped in with 15.

Peyton Perine (Fairfax, Va.) put up 19 points and nine rebounds to pace the Colonels (2-4 overall, 0-1 CCC). She also grabbed nine rebounds and four steals. Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) fell one assist and one steal shy of registering a quadruple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists, and nine steals in 39 minutes. Molly Plunkett (Quincy, Mass.) was the final player in double figures with 13 points while adding five rebounds and one steal.

Curry took control more than halfway through the opening quarter, closing the period on a 16-6 run. The lead grew to as many as 13 in the second quarter but Endicott pulled to within three, thanks to a 12-4 run over the final 2:41 of the half. Despite the run, the Colonels held a 42-39 lead at the break.

The Gulls erased the deficit in the third quarter and grew the lead to as many as nine in the frame to lead 66-57 at the end of three and then closed the game by outscoring Curry 18-8 in the final quarter to capture the game by a margin of 19.

Curry will next play at Gordon College on Saturday, December 1 at 1:00 p.m. Endicott returns to action at Nichols College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
