Suffolk Storms Past Women's Basketball, 75-41

BOSTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team suffered a 75-41 setback at the hands of Suffolk University on Monday night in non-conference action at Regan Gymnasium.

Jenni-Rose DiCecco (Falmouth, Mass.) led all scorers with 20 points on 9-for-15 shooting and added six rebounds, five assists, and five steals to pace the Rams. Jordan Hipwell (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 points while Rachel LaSaracina (Colchester, Conn.) and Natalie Fraioli (Sutton, Mass.) added eight points apiece off the bench.

Molly Plunkett (Quincy, Mass.) led the Colonels with a double-double of 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points, nine boards, three assists, and one steal. Curry shot just 26 percent as a team and committed 25 turnovers.

Suffolk used a 12-0 run in the opening quarter to grab an 11-point lead. A layup from Hipwell pushed the score to 16-5 with 2:57 left in the frame. The Colonels trimmed the deficit to single digits on a three from Plunkett. DiCecco added the final bucket of the stanza to double up Curry at the end of one, 20-10.  

The margin grew to as many as 18 in the second quarter before Curry closed the deficit to 15 on a layup from Amanda Leal (Tyngsboro, Mass.) with two seconds left in the half. Still, the Colonels trailed 37-22 at the break.

The Rams widened the gap to 26 by the end of the third quarter and 36 by the final buzzer. Suffolk limited Curry to just 24 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes while the Colonels finished with a 43-41 advantage on the glass for the game.

Curry (2-3 overall) opens Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at Endicott on Wednesday, November 28 at 7:30 p.m. Suffolk (4-2 overall) will next travel to Bridgewater State University for a non-conference contest on Thursday, November 29 at 7:00 p.m.
