Women's Basketball Tripped Up By Framingham State, 70-37

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team lost the consolation game of its annual Tip-Off Tournament by a 70-37 final on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Katz Gymnasium.

Tia Torio (Manteca, Calif.) led all scorers with 11 points as the Lions captured its first win of the season and improved to 1-1 overall. She went 3-for-5 from the floor and was 5-for-6 from the charity stripe, while also recording nine rebounds and one steal. Seniesha Sekaquaptewa (Scottsdale, Ariz.) tallied nine points off the bench, shooting 50 percent from the floor and grabbing two rebounds.

Curry (0-2 overall) was led by Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) and Peyton Perine (Fairfax, Va.), who finished with nine points apiece. Irwin shot 3-for-12 and also registered four rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Perine finished the contest with two rebounds, one assist and one block in addition to her nine points.

Eastern Nazarene held Curry to just 24.5-percent shooting (13-for-53) for the game and held a 47-30 rebounding advantage. Trailing 11-10 after the first quarter, the Lions took control of the game in the second, outscoring the home team 16-10 in the second stanza to build a 26-21 lead at halftime.

Eastern Nazarene pulled away in the second half, outscoring Curry 44-16 over the final two quarters to make the 70-37 final.

Curry will next play at home against Pine Manor College on Thursday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Nazarene hosts Wentworth on Tuesday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m.
