BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team earned a 65-33 victory against Curry on Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference competition.  

The Hawks won the tip-off to start the game, but it was Curry who would put up the first points. Early on in play, both teams struggled to shoot the ball. It was not until Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) went for a layup at 5:52 that points made it on the board. 

Mary Beth Cahill's (East Williston, N.Y.) layup at 5:36 to give the Hawks their first successful shot after going 0-for-6 to begin the game. Rachel Battista's (Johnston, R.I.) shot at 1:54 put the Hawks ahead of the Colonels for the first time, the score now 7-5. 

Just under a minute left in the first quarter, Rice shot a layup and Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) followed shortly with a shot to put Curry just one point behind Roger Williams 9-10. In the very final second of the quarter, Battista's three-point shot allowed the Hawks to assert a four-point lead going into the second quarter of the game. 

Curry started the second quarter determined to take back the lead. Griffith's shot at 9:43 gave the Colonels a chance to rally, now only down two points 11-13. However, Roger Williams' tenacity quickly picked up. 

At 6:42 Cahill's three-pointer brought the Hawks up 22-13. Baskets went back and forth as Curry worked to reduce the Hawk lead. A missed shot opportunity by Curry in the final minute of the half left Roger Williams ahead 28-21 as the buzzer went off. 

Moving into the second half, the Hawks were able to continue their strong offensive position against the Colonels. A layup by Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) at 9:47 began a nine-point run for the Hawks. At 3:01 Emily Irwin's (Billerica, Mass.) free throw's broke the run and put up Colonel points for the first time in the half with the score now 23-40. 

Curry unable to make a shot in the third quarter, going 0-for-12. At the outset of the final quarter of the game, the scoreboard read 42-23 with Roger Williams in the lead. 

A layup by Katie Lowerre (Sharon, Mass.) at 8:46 continued the Hawks' momentum as it ignited an eight-point run.  At7:20 it was a free throw by Griffith that registered a Colonel point on the board for the first time in the quarter, the score now 24-47. 

The Hawks' lead proved to be too much for the Colonels. At 5:22 Roger Williams pulled further away with a layup by Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) to make the score 52-24. Almost fifteen minutes into the half, Emily Irwin gave Curry their first successful field goal, the score now 27-54.  

An unmatched Hawks offense made it too difficult for the Colonels to push back. The game clock wound down to a Hawks victory the final score 65-33. 

Battista had 15 points for the Hawks, while Lowerre had 11 points. Teagan Dunn (Burlington, Conn.) and Nicholas both had strong defensive games, getting nine rebounds each. 

Irwin put up the most points for the Colonel's with nine points scored, while Rice scored eight points. Griffith had a strong defensive game with five blocks and eight rebounds for Curry. 

On Saturday, Roger Williams (14-9, 12-5 CCC) will travel to Boston to meet Wentworth at 1:00pm. Curry College (11-13 overall, 8-9 CCC) will host Gordon at 1:00pm.
