MILTON, Mass. – Curry College triumphed late to beat visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology, 55-53, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action Saturday afternoon in Milton. The win boosts the Colonels to 9-10 overall and 6-6 in conference play.  With the loss the Leopards fall to 6-13 on the season and 2-10 in CCC play.

Senior Rachel Camara (Fall River, Mass.) started the scoring for Wentworth with a three-pointer to put them up only 20 seconds into the game. Camara hit another one a couple minutes later to put the Leopards up 6-0 before sophomore Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) laid one in to open the scoring for Curry. The teams would trade baskets until the culmination of the quarter with a score of 10-8 in favor of Wentworth.

The two teams continued to trade baskets with the Leopards only able to separate by at most ten points which was the first half score, 23-13. Camara finished the half with 12 points and eight rebounds, both game-highs. Senior Carly Rogers (Scarborough, Mass.) was right behind with 7 points for Wentworth. Rice led the Colonels with four points and senior Kerry White (Windham, N.H.) pulled down a team-best six rebounds in the first half. 

The Leopards continued to maintain the lead but could never get away further than fifteen points which they reached multiple times. Curry ended the quarter on a 12-7 run ending on back to back three-pointers from junior Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) to bring the score back down to 43-33 entering the final frame. 

The Colonels continued to chip away at the lead and senior Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) finally put them up 52-51 with only 1:03 to play. Camara hit both of her free-throws to retake the lead for Wentworth only to have freshman Molly Plunkett (Quincy, Mass.) grab her own miss and put it back to take the lead again by one. 

Keeney split a pair of free-throws herself with 15 seconds left. Griffith was fouled, but missed both of her free-throws to give the Leopards one more possession. They would not be able to convert before the clock ran out and the final went to 55-53 in favor of Curry.

Freshman Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) led the team with 12 points and seven assists while adding six rebounds for the team fourth-best. Rice was right behind her, scoring 11 and also pulling down six boards. White and Griffith pulled down nine and eight rebounds respectively, team-high and second-high.

Camara led the game with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds while adding four assists. Rogers followed with 13 points and a team second-best eight rebounds, tying senior Megan McLaughlin (Southington, Conn.) who recorded the most assists in the game with eight.

Both teams return to conference action Tuesday evening as the Colonels travel to Endicott College for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off while Wentworth hosts Western New England University for a 5:30 p.m. start.
