Women's Basketball Tops Suffolk University 82-73 in Non-Conference Play

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team ended Suffolk University's three-game win streak with an 82-73 victory Tuesday evening in non-conference action in Milton, Mass. With the win the Colonels improved to 6-7 on the season while the Rams fell to 9-5.

Curry started the game by scoring the first 18 points in the first 3:30, ending on back to back three-pointers for senior Christina Deiorio (Stoughton, Mass.) The Rams ended up scoring 14 points the rest of the quarter, but the Colonels scored four more to put the score at 22-14 going into the second frame.

With just under seven minutes to go in the second quarter, Suffolk regained the lead with a 23-22 score after freshman Marissa Gudauskas (Bolton, Conn.) hit a jump shot. Junior Kelsey Schiebel (Windham, N.H.) led the game however with 11 first-half points for Suffolk.

Curry quickly tied up the game twice in the first four minutes of the half but wouldn't regain the lead until senior Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) hit both of her free-throws with 3:13 remaining in the quarter to put the Colonels ahead 54-53. After an Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) jump shot and another three from White, Curry went into the fourth quarter with a 61-57 lead.

The Colonels retained the lead the entire fourth quarter and reached their biggest lead of the game (11) after a successful jump shot from Deiorio. Deiorio also closed out the scoring after sinking one of two shots from the charity stripe to put the final score at 82-73.

Irwin led Curry with 19 points at the end of the night while adding a game-high in steals, with six.
