MILTON, Mass. - In the opening round of the 2015 Curry College Women's Basketball Tip-Off Tournament, Trinity College of Connecticut beat Wellesley College by the score of 53-30, while the host Colonels beat Southern Vermont College, 86-62.
TRINITY 53, WELLESLEY 30
The Bantams were led by senior Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) with ten total points, shooting 3-6 from the field. She also recorded two blocks. Freshman Erin Cunningham (Wilton, Conn.) was right behind Griffin, scoring eight points.
The Blues were led by senior Chelsi Scott (Portland, Mich.) with 12 points shooting 5-11 from the field. Behind her was junior Ailis Hanley (Cranston, R.I.) who recorded four points for Wellesley.
CURRY 86, SOUTHERN VERMONT 62
The Colonels were led by senior classmates Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) and Kerry White (Windham, N.H.) with 15 points each, shooting 63% and 58% from the field respectively. Griffith also added four steals and White recorded three steals while both pulled down four rebounds. Senior Christina Deiorio (Stoughton, Mass.) was right behind, shooting 75% from the field on her way to scoring 14 points for Curry. Junior Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) also added 13 points while sophomore Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) grabbed a team-high 10 total rebounds.
The Mountaineers were led by senior Amber Flagg (Windsor, Conn.) with 17 points while adding six assists and a game-high six steals. Classmate Turquoia Johnson (Rockville, Md.) was close behind with 12 points and recorded a game-high 13 total rebounds. Fellow senior Shaniquewa Barnes (Landover, Md.) also chipped in double digit points (13) while also adding five rebounds and three assists.
