Women's Basketball Clinches #3 Seed in CCC Tournament with a 57-43 Win Over Salve Regina

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Women's Basketball team clinched the #3 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) playoffs with a 57-43 victory over visiting Salve Regina on Senior Day Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels finish the regular season with a 15-10 overall record and a 12-6 CCC record, while the Seahawks close out the regular season at 12-13 overall and 9-9 in league play.

Salve Regina opened the game with an 11-4 run, capped off by a completed three-point play by freshman Allyson Esielionis (Shirley, Mass.) with 15:46 on the clock. Curry chipped away, eventually taking a four-point edge (27-23) heading into intermission.

The Seahawks started the second period with a 15-3 spurt, claiming a 38-30 lead after junior Meaghan Harden (Sandwich, Mass.) sank a three-pointer with 15:48 remaining. The Colonels answered with an 11-3 run to knot the game at 41-41. The run was capped off with a pair of free throws by junior Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.). Curry went on to score 16 of the game's final 19 points, accounting for the 57-43 final.
Colonels' senior Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) led all scorers with 21 points, while Griffith added 11. Freshman Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) scored eight points, while also recording a game-best four blocks. Senior Samantha Corcoran (Hampton, N.H.) contributed with team-highs in rebounds (9) and assists (5).
Harden paced Salve Regina with 16 points, while also pulling down seven boards. Senior Brianna Del Valle (Belchertown, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Esielionis chipped in with 13 points.
Curry (#3 seed) and the Seahawks (#6 seed) will meet again in the CCC quarterfinals on Tuesday night in Milton with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
