Women's Basketball Advances to Championship Game of Curry Tip-Off Tournament with 78-56 Win Over Southern Vermont

MILTON, Mass.­­ - In the opening round of the 2014 Curry College Women's Basketball Tip-Off Tournament, the host Colonels topped Southern Vermont College, 78-56, while St. Joseph's College of Maine defeated MIT, 73-50.

CURRY 78, SOUTHERN VERMONT 56

The Colonels were led by senior Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) with game highs in points (24), assists (7) and steals (7). Junior Samantha Corcoran (Hapton, N.H.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) chipped in with 15 points, nine boards and a game-best four blocks, while sophomore Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) added 12 points.

Junior Turquoia Johnson (Montgomery Village, Md.) paced the Mountaineers with a 22-point, 15-rebound double-double effort. Freshman Chloe Longe (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) contributed 12 points. Junior Amber Flagg (Windsor, Conn.) chipped in with seven points and four rebounds.

ST. JOSEPH'S 73, MIT 50 

Freshmen Emily Quirion (Augusta, Maine) and Norma Waggett (Saugus, Mass.) led the Monks with 12 points apiece. Senior Sarah Assante (Standish, Maine) and freshman Hayley Quirion (Augusta, Maine) scored 11 each. Sophomore Abbie Eastman (Norway, Maine) pulled down nine boards.

MIT junior Sabrina Drammis (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) recorded a game-high 18 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Junior Maya Ramachandran (Fremont, Calif.) had 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks.
