Women's Basketball Suffers 71-61 Loss to CCC Rival Salve Regina

MILTON, Mass. – Salve Regina topped Curry College, 71-61, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Seahawks improved to 7-8 on the season and 5-3 in CCC play, while the Colonels fell to 7-7 overall and 4-4 in conference action.

Curry opened the first period on a 13-6 run that began after junior Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) made a layup and was later capped off with a Beltz three-pointer with 14:44 on the clock. Throughout the remainder of the first half, the teams traded the lead four times with the Colonels claiming 34-30 edge at halftime.

Curry took its biggest lead of the game (46-38) after Beltz sank another shot from beyond the arc with 13:52 left in regulation. The Seahawks answered with a 20-4 run that started with a converted three-point play by senior Marissa Pendergast (Medfield, Mass.) and was capped off with a layup by sophomore Meaghan Harden (Sandwich, Mass.) with 6:46 on the clock. Salve Regina maintained a steady lead en route to the 71-61 final.

Pendergast led all scorers with 20 points, while also pulling down 12 rebounds. Junior Brianna Del Valle (Belchertown, Mass.) had a game-high 22 rebounds and chipped in with 17 points. Harden scored 18 points, while junior Laura Anne Dinan (Monterey, Mass.) added 10.

The Colonels were led by Beltz with a team-best 17 points. Junior Christina Deiorio (Stoughton, Mass.) contributed with 11. Sophomore Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) recorded a team-high nine rebounds.

Both teams return to CCC action on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., as the Seahawks host Western New England, while Curry travels to the University of New England.
