Women's Basketball Extends Conference Win Streak to Four After 77-60 Win at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. - Gordon Fighting Scots Women's Basketball fell to a red hot Curry Colonels squad on 77-60 on Thursday night at the Bennett Center. The Scots trailed by only one point at halftime, but an offensive explosion by the Colonels early in the second half proved to be the difference as the Scots fell to 5-7 on the year.

The Fighting Scots (5-7) played one of their best halves of basketball in the first half of competition. After getting down by double-digits early in the half, Gordon came roaring back in the final 10 minutes of the first period to make things interesting heading into halftime.

Brooke Kratche found her groove early on, scoring the Scots first six points. Soon enough Skylar Bareford and Lauren Kranyak got into the action to cut Curry's 10-point lead to two at 19-17 with 7:20 on the clock. Bareford shot 50% from behind the arc in the game, matching her season-high with four triples in a game.

Kranyak filled up the stat sheet with 19 points and six rebounds off the bench. Despite not entering the game until the 9-minute mark in the first half, Kranyak was a huge factor for the Scots cutting Curry's lead to 30-29 right before halftime.

The second half was a different story for the Colonels, as they scored 20 points in the first six minutes of the stanza to open up a big lead. Kratche and Bareford each made deep buckets in an attempt get the Scots back within striking distance, but Curry's 62% shooting performance in the second half proved to be the difference.

Kylie Beltz finished two rebounds and an assist away from a triple-double by racking up 18 points, nine assists and eight boards. Samantha Corcoran had an efficient night by shooting 8-for-11 for 16 points. The junior also broke Curry's all-time record for blocks with a deflection in the first half. Jeanette Fallon was the only other Colonel in double figures with 16 points on the evening.

Kratche finished with 24 points and three assists. Bareford finished with 14 points, all of which coming from three or from the free-throw line.

Curry (7-4) looks to get their fifth CCC win of the year when Endicott comes to town on Saturday afternoon. Gordon will try and rebound on the road against Salve Regina on the same day.
